Finding True Love at Work
Are You Doing What You Love at Work? Or Just Explaining Where You Work?
What do you say when someone asks: “So, what do you do?”
Do you name the organisation you work for, or do you talk about what you actually do? Most people default to something like, “I work for [Company Name], we do [X].” But here's the thing: your job title isn’t the whole story. It’s just the setting.
What really matters is what you do, why you do it, and how it makes you feel.
At Sustainable Life Coach, this is the work I do with clients every week. Whether they’re stuck in unfulfilling jobs, frustrated with poor leadership, or ready to make a shift, the common thread is this: they want a work life that feels aligned with who they are.
You’re Not Your Employer. You’re Your Role.
If your answer to “What do you do?” focuses more on where you work than how you work, it might be time to re-evaluate.
You are a leader. A project manager. A coach. A creator. A problem-solver.
The organisation is lucky to have you—not the other way around.
And if that isn’t how it feels, something’s out of balance.
Too many professionals stay in jobs that drain them, stuck in teams where they’re undervalued, underused, or simply not listened to. The result? Low morale, high stress, and a career that feels like it’s happening to you instead of because of you.
Are You Doing What You Love at Work?
Work takes up too much of our lives to be something we just tolerate. Ask yourself:
Do I enjoy what I do every day?
Am I respected and trusted in my role?
Do I feel like my strengths are recognised?
Do I feel like I’m growing?
If you’re leading a team or running a business, ask this instead:
Do my people love coming to work?
Am I building a culture where people thrive?
Would they say I lead with integrity, clarity, and care?
If the answer is no—or you’re not sure—coaching can help.
Coaching for Fulfilment, Leadership, and Culture Shift
I describe my role now in three ways: Consultant. Coach. Facilitator. Or, if you're into The Godfather, think of me as a modern-day consigliere (no horse heads involved).
My job is to help people and teams work better together. That might mean supporting a founder who’s lost momentum. Or helping a new manager build confidence. Or working with a leadership team to create a healthier, more productive culture.
Through coaching tools honed over the last 10+ years, I guide clients to understand themselves, communicate more clearly, and lead more effectively. It starts with self-awareness and grows into lasting behavioural change. The knock-on effect is huge: better collaboration, improved morale, and stronger business performance.
Why This Work Matters
The turning point for me was learning how I worked—and how others experienced me. That understanding changed everything. It made me a better leader, colleague, and communicator. It helped me choose roles more wisely, say no to the wrong fit, and eventually find my people.
That’s what I want for my clients too.
Whether you’re here because you’re feeling stuck, undervalued, or unsure of your next move—or you’re a leader who wants to create a better environment for your team—I’d love to help you figure out what’s next.
Work You Love Isn’t a Pipe Dream
